Social-civil community development and long-term perspective
Nohrsam works with sustainable community development as a multidimensional and long-term process, rooted in human dignity, cultural continuity and responsibility toward future generations.
Sustainability is understood as more than social, environmental and economic considerations. Cultural heritage, identity, shared values and environmental coherence are essential dimensions of sustainable development, particularly in contexts affected by conflict, fragility or historical disruption.
Across all engagements, the rights and interests of children and young people, as articulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, form a foundational reference point.
Nohrsam har sin bakgrunn i en bred forståelse av bærekraft, slik den er utviklet gjennom Brundtlandrapporten Our Common Future (1987), Rio-konferansen om miljøog utvikling (1992) og FNs Agenda 2030 (2015).
Bærekraft forstås som et samspill mellom sosiale, miljømessige, kulturelle og økonomiske hensyn, der utvikling skjer innenfor naturens tålegrenser og med respekt for menneskeverdet og kommende generasjoner.
Miljøansvar forstås som et spørsmål om balanse og sammenheng mellom menneskeliv, levende systemer og sted. Inspirert av helhetlige og biogeometriske perspektiver, blir bærekraft, inkludert bærekraft til de yngre generasjoners beste interesse, behandlet som en naturbasert harmoniseringsprosess på flere nivåer.
Barnets beste, slik det er forankret i FNs barnekonvensjon, er et gjennomgående prinsipp i arbeidet. Nohrsam retter særlig oppmerksomhet mot problemstillinger som berører flyktning- og innvandrermiljøer med kunnskap, erfaring og engasjement for sine opprinnelsesland. Et sentralt spørsmål er hvordan tradisjonell kunnskap, moderne fagkompetanse og lokale erfaringer kan forenes i utvikling av bærekraftige, robuste og inkluderende lokalsamfunn, til beste for dagens og framtidige generasjoner.

Working Approach

Democratic Participatory Involvement
What is considered good planning for young people is generally seen as good planning for the entire local community, including groups such as parents, businesses, voluntary organizations, the neighborhood, and neighbors.
About Nohrsam
Nohrsam is an independent initiative working with sustainable community development, with particular attention to children’s and youth interests, participation and rights.
The work draws on long experience from planning and governance contexts, combined with extensive international experience in humanitarian engagement, community support, youth empowerment and democratic processes in diverse and often complex environments.
Nohrsam applies a holistic and context-sensitive approach, grounded in respect for cultural heritage, local values and long-term relationships. Purpose and context guide the choice of methods, with the aim of strengthening communities’ own capacity to shape sustainable pathways for present and future generations.
